ALEC: Church activists are hurting us. Make them stop

Progressive Culture | Scholars & Rogues

ALECvUUThe conservative political Goliath known as ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) may have met its David in the guise of Unitarian-Universalists and other progressives. ALEC has been wounded not with a sling and stone, but knowledge and organized financial pressure on its corporate backers.

On October 17, ALEC sent a fundraising  email to its members and supporters that starts off:

“Professional activists ranging from Common Cause to the Unitarian Universalist Church just won’t stop. As part of their misleading smear campaign, these activist groups demand members stop working with ALEC.”

It sounds, almost, unfair. “Professional activists” picking on poor ALEC.

The Flower That Shattered The Stone

Because it’s JD kind of day

Earth is our mother
Just turning around
With her trees in the forest
And roots underground

Our father above us
Whose sigh is the wind
Paint us a rainbow
Without any end

As the river runs freely
The mountain does rise
Let me touch with my fingers
And see with my eyes
In the hearts of the children
A pure love still grows

Like a bright star in Heaven
That lights our way home
Like the flower that shattered the stone

A sparrow finds freedom
Beholding the sun
In the infinite beauty
We’re all joined in one

I reach out before me
And look to the sky
Did I hear someone whisper
Did something pass by

As the river runs freely
The mountain does rise
Let me touch with my fingers
And see with my eyes
In the hearts of the children
A pure love still grows

Like a bright star in Heaven
That lights our way home
Like the flower that shattered the stone

Like a bright star in Heaven
That lights our way home
Like the flower that shattered the stone

Android users: your phone is under attack. You know that swype keyboard that’s so much nicer than clicking on each letter? That’s a surveillance device that logs every word you input. Switch to Google Keyboard right now. Swype Keyboard Free lists the following Permission Details: approximate (network based) location, precise (GPS) location, read your text messages, read call log, record audio, read terms you added to the dictionary. Google Keyboard contains none of that. Why does a keyboard app need GPS coordinates?

Scottish Folklore and Magic – in case you are interested

There is a whole series of books on Scottish magic and folklore some of which seems very familiar from stuff my grandmother said available very inexpensively on Kindle. Two are below and they all have a purple lower border.

I’m finding them fascinating. I found one and in Amazon’s lovely fashion, of course more came up in my recommendations. Some are even around 99 cents.
