Prayer for an early fall morning
I sit on the mountain caressed by a breeze fragrant with pine and I ask the blessing of the morning sunshine until the long purple twilight until the full moon lights the pine forest.
I ask the protection of the nine joys of the forest:
The fragrance of vanilla Jeffrey pines
The tap of the woodpecker
The squawk of a Stellar jay
The grace of the long brown grass
The joyful yellow of the flowers of the rabbit brush
The trill of a tree frog
The buzz of the evening crickets
The dance of the oak trees
The whooshing of the trees in the wind
I thank the woods for the protection of the day and of the night from rising of the sun to the setting of the full moon
