Md. officials: Letting ‘free range’ kids walk or play alone is not neglect – The Washington Post

  1. Thank goodness that the parents had the knowledge and resources to fight the CPS on this and knew how to bring the media in. I wonder what would have happened to them if they were poor and/or not media savvy. They could have lost their kids or been thrown in jail. I think them being a married couple helped them. If a single mom lets her kids be “free-range” (which used to just be called being a kid) she might be treated worse by CPS. I also get the feeling that this couple is now considered an “enemy” by some of those CPS workers and will probably be harassed again.
