Today’s reading

Ace of Stones

The primal rock from which all can be measured. Cup and ring = emergence of life. A still and stable point from which to plan and measure your life.

Mythically the foundation stone means the first dry land on which life could begin. Also the first created form, matter, the mother stone, the firm ground from which one can begin one’s journey and measure the eight directions, the birthing ground, the navel stone.

The Labyrinth is the place where your journey begins; the first steps; the cup and ring marks represent the source, your emergence into this world.

Yuletide – Go tell it on the mountain – pagan carol

While witches kept their watching O’er sleeping flock by night, Behold, throughout the night sky, There shone a magic light.

Go tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere.
Go tell it on the mountain,
The Solstice sun is born.

The witches danced and feasted, When lo, there was rebirth.
The sunbeams climbed the mountains
And poured across the earth.

Down in a lowly valley,
The sun rays lit the morn,
And life began a-stirring
To sing this solstice song.

This tune was cooperatively adapted by Coven of the Mother Mountain Aerie and guests at their August 2000 “Christmas in August” song bastardization workshop.
