The world is watching you Scotland

I watching England try to have it both ways rather bemusedly. I can’t vote for Scotland’s independence much as I’d like to do so. Some of the Scots in my family got shipped here after the last independence cockup and I’m hoping this time Scotland decides they are a country and worthy of self-governance.

What worries me is England’s stupidity, on one hand they imply Scots are too stupid to go it alone, that they need to be Scotland’s nanny. Scotland’s people have invented things like tires, raincoats, roadway surfaces, the telephone and the modern US Navy but yeah, Scots are too stupid to govern themselves not to mention a few notables like my cousin, Adam Smith and Mr Alexander or David Hume. The less said about another cousin, John Brown, the better.

And on the other hand, you have that fake named Scot, David Cameron (yes, I know he’s a privileged Sassenach but he bears the name of Clan Cameron) and the idiot with the face of an old washrag, Gordon Brown, promising things they have no intention of delivering.

All I can say from way over here in California, that had more Scots living here in 1901 when my Grandma immigrated here than were in Scotland, VOTE YES! Alba Go Bragh!

You are richer and smarter and more stubborn than the English give you credit for, make what was wrong in 1707, right.

The English are just worried you will give Wales and Northern Ireland ideas. Those pesky trouble making Gaels.

The shlock of naw

A few random thoughts at the start of a new week and a new life.  Queen Betty has spoken, she wants people to “think very carefully” before exercising their vote on Thursday. The No campaign has, predictably, taken this as an endorsement of their position, although thinking carefully is the exact opposite of shutting up and eating your cereal, refusing to send speakers to public debates and events, and claiming that Scotland is on hold. It’s probably a safe bet that Betty is a Unionist, this is news of the milk makes your cornflakes soggy variety. But the Nawnentities are now desperately clutching at any fresh rice crispies that are going.

There’s not much else a world power that punches above its weight can do when it’s put on the run by two guys with a rickshaw, the theme tune to the Empire Strikes Back, and a sense of humour…
