Things I’d add to the post on Feminism this morning.

I have the right to where pants and t-shirts and not be called – “Sir” because you decide not to look at me. I have the right to have you look me in the eye and not another body part.

I have the right not to wear make-up if I so choose, to not wear a dress because someone else expects or stupid heeled shoes, a short skirt and still be considered a full blooded woman.

I have the right to do any job I choose, whether digging a garden or doing complex mathematics or writing any story I choose and it’s not chick lit. I have the right to do “unfeminine things” like be a smith or play with acid and hot glass because it’s fun.

I have the right to not to subscribe to any stereotype about women and that includes having to like the colour of pink and still be a woman.

I have the right to have a full length stride and not be hobbled by constrictive clothing.

I have the right to be heard in a room of men and not dismissed as having nothing important or intelligent to say.

I have the right to go to a physician and have certain things assumed about me because I’m female. I have the right to be asked and believed that I do not want to have children.

Women have the right to be respected for their choices by other women and by men. Women have the right to make choices but they also have the responsibility to know why they make those choices and be able to convey logically why they have made a choice and not just because it was expected of them.

All Women should have the right to choose who they marry. All women and girls have the right to go to school and to grow up healthy. All women have a right to choose how to use their body. It belongs to them and not their parents or their boyfriend or husband. Women are not property. A woman is only owns herself.
