March book – Witches and Witchcraft book challenge

I finally came to the end of Jim Butcher’s Alera series. It’s a fantasy series that takes place in a Romanesque world where the high ranking citizens and knights have access to elemental magic.

The first book is all about Tavi who seems to have undistinguished parentage and the series covers his growth from urchin shepherd to ruler fighting off some pretty gross bug people invading.

I enjoyed the series and his various uses and misuses of magic and what happens when the people with too much power abuse it.

I still think I like the Dresden books better but if you like Romans in battle with a twist it’s entertaining.
