my hair is back!

I’ve been growing my hair out since last February. For years I had hair down to my but that I wore French braided around my head. It’s how I feel the most “me”. Today for the first time I could braid my whole head again.

When I saw myself in the mirror just now it was seeing “Me” again and it feels good. I had short hair all the time I was a kid and if mom could catch me long enough it was a little boy or pixie cut. I hated it. I remember the first hair cut I ever had that wasn’t from mom. It was the one and only tantrum I ever threw in public. And it never has felt any better.

I had to have it cut a few years ago because I had surgery and I’ve learned to hard way that it was better to cut it because for some reason general anesthetic plays havoc with my hair. It falls out and it breaks. I kept it short until last February when I decided I had had enough and I wanted my hair back.

Good thing I kept all the expensive hair clips I bought over the years. I have a lot of cool pewter ones from the Renaissance Faire by Oberon.com and others that have acorns and oak leaves and owls and I have some beaded Celtic Knot ones too that I can’t wait to wear again.

One of the few days I ever felt pretty was the day of my ordination with my hair braided and my crown on. To be ordained in the FOI you have to have a crown, a stole and a wand. I made my crown from silver wire and I used Femo to make symbols of each of the Goddesses and God I was being ordained to and I painted the silk that was my stole with symbols of the same. I found my scarf last night saw the wand in my drawers this morning when I was looking for something. I should polish my crown.

It’s been 12 years in February since I was ordained. It feels good. I never really thought about my hair and being a priestess but it feels a part of it.

Liebster Award

The wonderful and talented and organized beyond belief, Poppyunderhill of http://bookofshadowsandblessings.wordpress.com nominated me for the Liebster Award

The rules on nominating bloggers for this is that:

1.the bloggers have to have 200 or less followers.

2.there is a list of questions to answer from your nominator as well as having to come up with a list of questions for your own nominees. you can either use the same questions as was asked of you or make up new ones for your nominees.

3.copy/paste the award logo into your post. you can add it to your blog sidebar or footer if you wish.

4. notify your nominees of the nomination.

Below are the questions asked by my nominator and her nominator and (because they are good questions) they are also the questions for my nominees.

1. Which art form offers you the truest expression for yourself?

Seriously, only one? Smithing and photography and writing and glass making and pen and ink drawing. In other words, there isn’t one, it’s whatever creative endeavour I feel drawn to at the moment.

2. In that art form, what is your most honest piece of expression?

In writing, I suppose the Littlest Druid stories. She’s the closest to my personality and being an alter ego. In photography, whatever is currently in my sights. For anything else whatever I’m doing at the time.

3. What always makes you laugh?

Lots of things, absurdity, pure silliness, life. Not usually mean things or stupid jackass type stuff unless it’s Darwin Award caliber.

4. What always makes you cry?

The news, movies, friends in pain, lots of things. Hell, Mary Poppins made me cry when I saw it the first time in the theater as a kid and I didn’t even like the movie because it wasn’t the same as the book back in 1964 and I got ragged on for it.

5. What is one thing that you can’t do that you’d love to be able to do?

Ride a bike, I can’t balance well.

6-7. What is your favorite book? Why does it affect you so?

One book, no way. Lord of the Rings, All the Oz books, The Mad Scientist’s Club, Darkover books, Anything by Elizabeth Moon, Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Jim Butcher, the MacCaffreys, MZB, I’d say Tolkien but some stuff is impenetratable. David Weber. The Just So stories. That is just a few. There will never be one of anything.

Why do they affect me? I love a good story told well.

8-9. What is your favorite movie or play? Why does it affect you so?

LOTR – it’s such a heroic story and it’s the little people who are the heart and heroes not the big people.

Brigadoon – it was the first stage production I ever saw as a child and it’s guaranteed to give me an earworm.

Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Brave, Mulan, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Toy Story 3, – They all have heart and a good story.

Mrs Brown – It’s about a first once removed cousin, John Brown.

10. If you were given the opportunity to spend one more day with a friend or family member who has passed away, what would you do?

It would be my little brother or my grandma. We go to some place with good wildlife to watch and we’d talk and I’d ask my grandmother a ton of questions. Or my friend Kathy, to apologize. We all failed her.

11. If you had won the $580 million Power Ball jackpot last night, what would you be doing today?

Looking for a house in the woods. And making anonymous donations all over the place, I’d like to make people’s dreams come true. I can’t think of anything more fun than to be someone’s faery godmother.

And in that spirit, I’m not doing any nominating. If you think you deserve it then give it to yourself. There are a lot of great blogs out there, go for it!
