Reality check on the Blue Moon – It’s not a pagan event

I think I’m about to commit heresy but to a pagan of Celtic leanings I’m afraid getting excited about a made astronomical non-event does not excite me. Why is it a non-event? Because the year used to consist of 13 lunar months until the Church and Rome decided 12 was better for everyone else. So if you are on a lunar calendar there are no blue moons unless of course, there is a volcanic eruption and the moon really does turn blue

So in reality it’s a modern Christian thing to get all worked up celebrating and I for one am not buying into it. It’s just another full moon in the calendar. And one if you read the articles I posted was a mistake on top of it. So I hate to burst your bubble but it’s just another full moon sabbat and the one before a bright orange harvest moon which I find much more intriguing personally.

  1. I’m with you on this one…I always have a hard time getting excited over things that are human-invented, such as days like 12/12/12 or such. Full moons are beautiful because they’re full moons, and I don’t think one kind of human-labelled full moon (harvest moon, blue moon, whatever) is any more special or spiritual than any other kind.

  2. I’m just excited that’s a full moon, regardless of what they call it. I’ll still be out there howling and soaking up all the energy of the Goddess. In fact, we’re throwing a big pagan party tonight!

    • Just about every pagan on WordPress seems have gone gaga over the Blue Moon and it makes absolutely no sense. But I guess bandwagons can be fun to jump on

      • at heart I really think people just love something that is “special” so we try to make every thing special. I don’t know I am confused by a lot of things I see around, makes me feel old (I’m not even if my daughter did tell me that the other day) and very fluffy bunny

      • Its a full moon. I like full moons. And I am ok with things that get people out there doing things rather then sitting around not celebrating. 🙂 Is it any more powerful? Who knows. If so many people think it is and are putting that energy out there, then maybe it will be. Or maybe it will be just as normal as any full moon.

In any case I celebrated it the same way I do every full moon. But yes, I wished everyone a happy blue moon. I don’t think its a crime.

    • I posted the Nasa version of these a few days ago. I just can’t get excited about something that was invented and not even for any special purpose. If you are practicing a Celtic path there are no blue moons.
