Hallows, Samhain Nights

This has always been my favourite time of year for oh so many reasons. When you are a child it’s a magickal time where anything can happen. The winds blow and the air is crisp and clear and on Hallows Night it was usually warm so you didn’t freeze in your costume. It was a time of potential. You had just started school and you hadn’t messed anything up too badly yet. We planned our costumes and our routes through the different neighborhoods meticulously and you dreamed of the riches in your pillowcase even if I usually gave most of it to Cam. You could be anything or anybody and you could meet anything or anybody.

Now I still love it for the weather and different kinds of potentials. Potentials like the bulbs and plants we plant for spring hoping for beauty and colour. Wondering which of friends and relatives will check up on us this year. Planning the Samhain ritual and spending the night with my coven sisters. We remember those we miss so much and invite them in to celebrate with us. I light the tea and faery lights in the garden to make it magical and welcoming place for the spirits. And we wait for the Visitors…
