While I’m on the theme and because Shelley posed this question too.
My favourite sounds, also in no particular order:
Music, particularly things I have sung or can sing along with.
a push lawn mower on a summer day
my grandmother’s voice
crickets if they aren’t in the house somewhere I can’t get at them
our camp’s lake and fish jumping
women’s voices singing, especially lullabyes in the dark
a car engine with no problems
my cat’s purr or her chirping at me
wind in trees
The sound of a man’s voice through his chest if he’s hugging you
Deep men’s voices singing
massed highland pipes
a round when it is spot on perfectly sung
This is sort of off. There are only 2 questions that deal with SAD and the only reason I mentioned winter was it was my least favourite out of the 4. Weird. Dysthymia, no big surprise there especially in the midst of grief.
At the workshop on metaphor in ritual and sympathetic magic we were asked to to say our favourite smell among other things. I have tremendous trouble choosing my favourite thing in any category. I like too many things. One colour? One book? One movie? One anything? There are too many lovely things to appreciate in the world. Maybe it’s because I’m a gemini or have sensory ADD but no way.
So here is a list of my favourite smells, in no particular order:
Bacon, popcorn or coffee in the AM. I love the smell of coffee and I hate the taste.
Freshly mown grass
fallen leaves in fall
my grandmother’s solid perfume (it smelled green)
Cam’s old tshirts
the Angeles National Forest
my healing & Treesong incense
fresh baked bread
Hot glass and hot silver – forge smells
my kitty when she hasn’t just been in her box
First morning of the Ren Faire
And probably oh, so many others
