Poetry month – camp song

We’re a Rainbow Made of children
We’re an army Just singin our song
There’s no weapons That can stop us
Rainbow love is Much to strong

I was born in, Mississippi
Saying yes sir to all the men
But I found that it got me nowhere
So I’ll never say it again

We’re a rainbow made of children
We’re an army just singin our song
Theres no weapons that can stop us
Rainbow love is much to strong

I was taught that black was evil
I was taught that white was good
But when you become a rainbow
All the colors are understood

We’re a rainbow made of children
We’re an army just singin our song
Theres no weapons that can stop us
Rainbow love is much to strong

Poetry month – Camp song

Chorus:
I want to be strong, to be strong as the land around me
I want a heart that’s as wide as the sky
I want a spirit like a moving mountain stream.
I want to look people straight in the eye.

Walking along beneath a canopy of clouds
Feeling like a stranger in the midst of a crowd
I know that something great is calling me aloud
I know that I must choose.

The crowd is crying ‘cause there’s hunger and there’s hate
But if we care it’s not too late
A loving, laughing world we’re able to create
Underneath the endless sky.

Poetry month – I want to be strong

Poetry month – Who can sail?

Who can sail when there is no wind?
Who without oars can go rowing?
Who can sail far away from a friend
Without tears a flowing?

Try to sail when there is no wind.
Try without oars to go rowing.
Try to sail far away from a friend
Without tears a flowing.

I can sail when there is no wind
I without oars can go rowing
But I can’t sail far away from a friend
Without tears a flowing

Poetry month – Rainbow Children

Chorus:

We’re a rainbow made of children
We’re an army singing songs
There’s no weapon that can stop us
Rainbow love is much too strong.

I was raised in Mississippi
Saying “yes sir” to a man
But I found out it got me nowhere
So I ain’t gonna do it again

Well, my grandma, she was a princess
And my grandpa, he was a chief
And thanks to those of my good neighbors
Both my folks are on relief

I was taught that black was evil
I was taught that white was good
But in a rainbow made of children
Every colour’s understood.

It’s not the winning that’s important
But it’s how you play the game
But that’s not how some folks see it
And that’s not how peace is made.

Poetry month – On the loose

On the loose to climb a mountain
On the loose where I am free
On the loose to live my life the way I feel my life should be
For I’ve only got a minute and the whole world’s left to see
I’ll be looking for tomorrow on the loose

Have you ever seen the sunrise turn the sky completely red?
Have you slept beneath the moon and stars?
A pine bough for your head?
Do you sit and talk to friends though a word is never said?
Then you’re like me and you’ve been on the loose.

There’s a trail that I’ll be hiking just to see where if might go.
Many places left to visit, many people yet to know.
And in following my dreams I will live and I will grow
On a trail that’s out there somewhere on the loose.

So in search of love and laughter I am traveling ‘cross this land.
Never sure of where I’m going ‘cause I haven’t any plan.
So in time when you are ready, come and join me take my hand
Together we’ll share life out on the loose.

Poetry month – On my honor

Because of where I spent my day having a wonderful time

ON MY HONOR

On my honor I will try,
There’s a duty to be done and I say “aye”,
There’s a reason here for the reason up above,
My honor is to try and my duty is to love

1) People don’t need to know my name
If I do them any harm then I’m to blame.
If I help a Friend then I’ve helped me
To open up my eyes that I might see.

2) I’ve tucked away a song or two,
If you’re feeling low there’s one for you
If you need a friend, then I will come
And there’s plenty more where I come from.

3) Come with me where the fire burns bright,
You can see even better by firelight,
You can learn even more by the campfire’s glow,
Than you can ever learn in a year or so.

4) We’ve made a promise we’ll always keep,
We’ll pray “softly falls” before we sleep,
We’ll be Girl Scouts together, and when we’re gone,
We’ll still be trying and singing this song.
